IPad for photography part II

My recent post is contradicting this post... Lets just say I had an interesting experience. I was comissioned to do a photo shoot of a couple before their matric farewell. As you already know I don't own a fancy DSLR anymore and make do with my iPhone 4. So I got this opportunity and a Canon 450D with kit lenses were put in my hands. No externsl flash or any fancy equipment. I thought hey this should at the very least be interesting. I haven't shot with a canon in years much less an entry level camera with cheap lenses and now had to do a paying job.

The shoot went superb except for a few shortfalls from the camera's side which I was unprepared for. Then came the editing. To me the Editing can make or break a great photos in just a few steps. That is the main reason I always shot with Nikon. Their software is untouchable by anything else on the market. But how do I edit canon files with Nikon software which I don't own anymore? That's easy... Hello iPad loaded with snapseed.

Snapseed is for both iPhone and iPad's and can even edit RAW files if you have a camera connector kit which I don't own. So I shot in JPG and imported the photos to the iPad. If you get most things right in the camera little has to be done with editing to make your images look professional.

Editing photos with snapseed was the best choice for many reasons. The biggest reason was the superior auto function which helped very much with the bad contrast produced by the inferior lenses on the canon. No other apps that I have could also correct images this easily and trust me I have a lot of photo editing apps on both my iPad and iPhone.

Where snapseed starts lacking is when you want to get creative with film looks. This is where is swapped to Camera+ to apply the effect and then went back to snapseed to finnish it off.

I must say I am very pleased with the results.

Rest in Peace Steve Jobs

A great man is no longer with us. A man who had a vision and shared it with the world. May Steve Jobs rest in peace for he will forever be remembered.
