iPad for photography

Do you need an iPad for Photography?

In short... Not yet.

The iPad is a great device with many purposes and even if you don't need one you can probably find enough reasons to get one. At this time it is not yet a good enough reason to get it for photography reasons.

Firstly you need to transfer images to it which is an extra step. Even if you own an iPad 2 the image quality from the camera simply isn't that great.

Then you will notice that most of your favorite apps aren't ipad supported. Meaning it runs on a very small resolution. Some apps even need to be repurchased at a much higher price than the iPhone version!

My absolute favorite for iPhonography is camera+ which doesn't work on the native ipad resolution. This to me is a deal breaker because that is where I get creative with my images.

Filterstorm which is an amazing app is however supported on the ipad but it is quite difficult to use. On the iPhone it is a pain to use but on the iPad the interface just works so much better.

Another great app which was originally launched on the iPad and recently found it's way to the iPhone is snapseed. This is by far the closest thing to perfection on both the iPad and iPhone. Yes you can go a bit over the top with the editing but it's main appeal is in correcting images. The other effect that are included get boring quite quickly with most photos having the same look and feel when pushed creatively.

The iPad is still very new and even though it has been a massive success I highly recommend you wait for an ipad with a better camera and more applications before you could justify the purchase!

Happy Shooting!
